“Children need God and a religious community. They need love, security, appropriate freedom, continuity, order and meaning… Our goal is to create an environment that enables … children to encounter and worship God.”
(from Young Children and Worship, Sonia Stewart and Jerome Berryman)
At Grace Epiphany Church, there is a strong commitment to children and their faith development.
Nursery care for toddlers during services in the Nursery provided by a certified childcare instructor and a volunteer parent. We are also the home of The Big Backyard, a full-time weekday day care.
Children’s Ministry: Sunday mornings during the parish-wide Education Hour beginning at 9:30 am
Godly Play: Grace Epiphany has been offering Godly Play to its youngest members for over 15 years. Children learn the stories of both Old and New Testaments in a friendly environment created just for them. Through the process of “wondering” the children are invited to interpret the story in their own ways. Time for independent play is always available at the end of each class.
re-form: for middle school ages who know the basic stories of both Testaments and are beginning to think more deeply about what we are called to believe. This fall we are studying the stories of our Old Testament “Ancestors”
Confirm not Conform: a year-long confirmation preparation for older students.
Children’s Ministry Breakfasts: first Sunday of the month beginning at 9:15 in the Kitchen. Join all the children, young people and their families for fellowship before Sunday School.
Children as Worship Ministers: Older children may be invited to serve as acolytes, assisting the priest as he prepares at the Offertory and the Eucharist. In addition, at any Fifth Sunday (4 times a year) children read the lessons, process the elements and serve as ushers.
Helping Hands: At Grace Epiphany, helping others is encouraged at all ages, through a variety of activities throughout the year.
