The Rev. Dr. Patrick S. Cheng

The Rev. Dr. Patrick S. Cheng is Assistant Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He holds a PhD, MPhil, and MA from Union Theological Seminary in New York, a JD from Harvard Law School, and a BA from Yale College. Professor Cheng's research interests relate to the intersections of sexuality, race, and theology.

He is the author of Radical Love: An Introduction to Queer Theology (Seabury, 2011), and he is currently working on a book project entitled From Sin to Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ (Seabury). Cheng's essays have appeared in a number of anthologies, including the second edition of Sexuality and the Sacred (Westminster/John Knox, 2010) and The Queer Bible Commentary (SCM, 2006).

Radical Love:  An Introduction to Queer Theology

Published in March 2011, the book “provides a historical survey of how queer theology has developed from the 1950s to today and then explicates the themes of queer theology using the ecumenical creeds as a general framework. Topics include revelation, God, Trinity, creation, Jesus Christ, atonement, sin, grace, Holy Spirit, church, sacraments, and last things, as seen through the lenses of LGBT theologians.” 

Join Patrick Cheng—theologian, Episcopal Divinity School faculty member, and Metropolitan Community Church minister on the afternoon of Saturday, February 11th, 3pm at Church of St. Luke and the Epiphany where he will be presenting his book. Join Patrick, EDS alumni/ae, and other friends for a reception following the lecture.

Patrick will also be guess preacher for the Eucharist services at 8:00am and 10.30am here ar Grace Epiphany Church on Sunday, Feburary 12th.
